St. Philip Neri is known for founding the Confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity in the mid-16th century, for the relief of the poor, the sick and other persons in need. He initiated a place where Rome's intellectual elite could gather during concerts, lectures, exhibitions and other cultural events.
