Liturgical clothing for deacons
What is the meaning of dalmatic? This liturgical vestment has the cut of a loose tunic with wide sleeves and slits on both sides. It originated in Dalmatia, where it was worn by the laity during the Roman Empire. Today, it is mainly worn by deacons during the celebration of mass. A gothic dalmatic can also be worn by priests acting as deacons and by the bishop celebrating a pontifical mass.
